2025 MLB Watchability Index: Ranking Must-See Teams This Season

As the MLB season unfolds, baseball fans may find themselves wondering which teams are truly captivating to watch. For the second consecutive year, we’ve compiled the MLB Watchability Index, designed to pinpoint which squads are most worth tuning in to. Utilizing a new scoring system, we evaluated each team on multiple factors that contribute to overall excitement in baseball.
Evaluation Criteria
Teams are assessed in five distinct categories, with a total possible score of 40 points:
- Star Power (10 points): Evaluating top players against the MLB Rank top 100 list.
- Young Talent (10 points): Focused on first- and second-year players, as well as promising minor league call-ups.
- Baserunning (5 points): Measuring overall team speed, including stolen bases.
- Defense (5 points): Quality of defense and standout defenders.
- Minutiae (5 points): Unique elements such as ballparks, team mascots, and entertaining broadcasts.
- Bonus (5 points): Any additional factors that enhance the viewing experience.
Top Teams by League
American League
- Chicago White Sox: Score – 12/40
With limited star power and a young pitching rotation, the White Sox stand out for their potential rookies but still struggle overall. - Minnesota Twins: Score – 14/40
The Twins lack flashy players but may improve as younger prospects like Emmanuel Rodriguez are called up. - L.A. Angels: Score – 13/40
Star power primarily comes from Mike Trout; however, the young talent has yet to mature into heroes.
National League
- Atlanta Braves: Score – 25/40
