Stephen Graham and Malachi Kirby gear up for power struggle in Victoria London
The stars of Disney’s epic new series, set in the dangerous world of illegal boxing in 1880s Victorian London, spent weeks getting in shape for their roles.
A beefed-up Stephen Graham and a ripped Malachi Kirby worked tirelessly with a personal trainer to portray characters in the new series from the mind of Steven Knight, the acclaimed creator of the global hit series Peaky Blinders. I was working on it.
A Thousand Blows will be shown on Disney+ in the UK and Ireland, Hulu in the US, and Disney+ in select other countries in 2025. The second series is already in production.
These images offer our first glimpse of BAFTA-winning actor Malachi Kirby, who plays Hezekiah Moscow, a Jamaican kid thrown into the melting pot of vibrancy and violence of post-industrial London’s East End.

Drawn into a thriving criminal organization within the boxing scene, he meets Mary Karr, played by Erin Doherty, the leader of the Forty Elephants, a notorious London gang fighting for survival on the streets.
As Hezekiah develops new skills, he finds himself up against an experienced and dangerous boxer, Sugar Goodson, played by Stephen Graham. The two soon find themselves in a fierce rivalry that transcends the ring.
This thrilling series is brought to life by acclaimed screenwriter Stephen Knight, and stars and executive produces Stephen Graham.
• “A Thousand Blows” will stream exclusively on Disney+ starting February 21
