Louisiana State Police announced Friday that Lacy will be charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run and reckless operation of a vehicle.

Police said they are contacting Lacey and his attorney to ask him to turn himself in.

According to a State Police news release, Lacey was driving a 2023 Dodge Charger on Louisiana Highway 20 and “crossed the center line into the northbound lanes within a designated no-passing zone. “He recklessly passed multiple vehicles at high speed.” . ”

“As Lacy was illegally passing another vehicle, the driver of a northbound pickup truck slammed on the brakes and swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming Dodge,” a Louisiana State Police news release said. “I have changed my course.”

“A 2017 Kia Cadenza was driving behind the pickup truck, and the driver swerved to the left to avoid an oncoming Dodge Charger. The Kia Cadenza collided with the Dodge. As he took evasive action to avoid the vehicle, he crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound 2017 Kia Sorento.” ”

Police allege Lacey, 24, drove around the scene of the accident “without stopping to render aid, call emergency services or report his involvement in the accident.” It is said that he ran away.

Herman Hall, of Thibodaux, Louisiana, who was a passenger in the Kia Sorento, died from injuries sustained in the crash, state police said. Hall was 78 years old.

The drivers of the Cadenza and Sorento also suffered moderate injuries, police said.

Lacey’s attorney, Rocky Arsenault, said in a statement that his client is “fully cooperating with authorities.”

“While I strongly believe that the facts will ultimately prove the truth, I respect the need for a full and thorough investigation,” Arnounault said in a statement.

Lacy played two seasons at the University of Louisiana and transferred to LSU in 2022. Last season, he had 58 catches, nine touchdowns, and 866 yards, and declared for the NFL Draft on December 19, two days after the accident.
