Ryan Gosling’s Star Wars Project Update: What We Know So Far

In recent news, the highly anticipated Star Wars film featuring Ryan Gosling remains actively in development, despite a lack of official details. Originally announced in 2022, the project will be helmed by director Shawn Levy, known for his recent work on Deadpool & Wolverine, which was released in 2024.

Status of the Project

Collider’s Christina Radish provided the latest update from screenwriter Jonathan Tropper, who confirmed, “That gig is something I’ve dreamed about my whole life. We’re still working on it. For various reasons, I can’t say anything about it. But we’re working on it.”

Timeline and Context

While there is no definitive release date yet, this Star Wars film is poised to follow The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is set for release on May 22, 2026. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy shed light on the film’s narrative scope, indicating that it will introduce mostly new characters within the Star Wars universe.

Insights from Kathleen Kennedy

In an interview with Deadline, Kennedy stated, “Shawn’s is a standalone Star Wars story that’ll take place post 9, maybe five or six years out… And with this, it’s all pretty much new characters. We may bring some of the characters back from the sequel saga, but pretty much new characters.”

Anticipation and Future Developments

The announcement of this standalone film has generated significant excitement among fans. Given the timeline and the potential for fresh narratives, speculation and theories about the film’s direction are likely to escalate as its release date approaches.
