Record-Setting adidas Manchester Marathon 2025
On a historic day for marathon running in the UK, the adidas Manchester Marathon witnessed its largest-ever turnout, with over 36,000 participants overwhelming the streets of Greater Manchester. This event represents a significant milestone in UK running, coinciding with the 45th edition of the TCS London Marathon, where a record-breaking 56,640 runners crossed the finish line.
The adidas Manchester Marathon culminated with its runners celebrating a momentous crossing of the finish line on Oxford Road, with the University of Manchester providing a picturesque backdrop. The lively atmosphere was amplified by more than 140,000 supporters who lined the course, along with over 110,000 individuals tuning in via the marathon’s live stream.
Elite Performances and Competition
This year’s elite races showcased remarkable talent, as the marathon served as the host for over 70 athletes competing in the 2025 English Championships, facilitated by England Athletics. The men’s elite crown was claimed by Josh Griffiths, who finished with an impressive time of 02:16:56, while the women’s title went to Tessa McCormick, crossing the line with a notable 02:34:53.
A noteworthy achievement was made by Olivia Tsim, who secured second place just seven months after giving birth, highlighting the increasing diversity and stories of resilience within the sport.
Fundraising Success
This year’s event also marked a significant achievement in fundraising, surpassing last year’s total of £3.5 million with the final amount still being calculated. Donations from the marathon benefit numerous charitable organizations, including:
