Domhnall Gleeson Explores Guidance from ‘The Office’ Stars for Upcoming Spin-Off ‘The Paper’
The anticipation surrounding the upcoming spin-off series, The Paper, is palpable, as it seeks to follow the widely acclaimed show The Office. In light of this, the cast, including prominent actor Domhnall Gleeson, is gearing up to fulfill a high standard set by its predecessor.
Learning from the Best
In a recent interview with Collider, Gleeson shared his experiences connecting with two of The Office‘s most iconic figures: John Krasinski and Steve Carell. Gleeson had the chance to engage with Krasinski during their collaborative work on the movie Fountain of Youth. Reflecting on this opportunity, Gleeson described Krasinski as “incredible,” highlighting the significant insights he gained from their discussions.
“Of course, I talked to John, and it was crazy. I was working with John, so I got to talk to him about it before I fully jumped onto the job, and he was incredible and has remained incredible,” Gleeson remarked about Krasinski. He further noted Krasinski’s multifaceted talent as an actor, director, and writer, emphasizing the value of the lessons learned from him.
Insights from Steve Carell
Additionally, Gleeson leveraged his previous collaboration with Steve Carell, with whom he worked on the Hulu series The Patient. This connection provided him a chance to tap into the wisdom of Carell, who is cherished for his role as Michael Scott in The Office.
“I’d also worked with Steve Carell before, so I got to talk to each of them. I think a lot of it is just soaking up their vibe,” Gleeson stated while discussing the invaluable interactions he had with both actors.
The Importance of Ensemble Dynamics
A key takeaway from Gleeson’s conversations with Krasinski and Carell centers around the essence of ensemble performance. He underscored the selflessness required from actors to contribute to a successful group dynamic.
“They’re both very selfless actors, and I think that’s necessary in work like that. I think it has to be about the ensemble,” he explained. “They seem to be like that with all of their work. I think just leading by example, that was a lesson for me on its own. They’re also really funny, which is terrifying. That’s the other thing.”
