Scottie Scheffler Shines at CJ Cup Byron Nelson
Date: May 1, 2025
Impressive Opening Round
In his home state of Texas, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler made a remarkable entrance at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. Missing last year’s tournament to welcome his son, Bennett, he opened the event with an outstanding score of 10-under 61, securing a two-shot lead after the first round.
“Feel good. I played nice today,” Scheffler remarked after his round. “Had the good front nine and was able to put together a solid back nine as well. Overall, very pleased with the results of today.”
Throughout his first round, Scheffler showcased his skills, pinpointing key shots that set the tone for an excellent performance. “I hit some good shots to start the round, gave myself some looks, and was able to capitalize with a good iron shot on three and hit another iron shot on four,” he noted.
Weather Disruptions Impact Second Round
As he entered the second round, Scheffler faced a less fiery start, finishing at just 2-under after nine holes. His lead remained intact, however, until severe weather forced a suspension of play. On the morning of May 2, the PGA Tour announced that second-round play would be paused due to lightning in the area.
“Storms continue in the area and second-round play remains suspended,” the tour communicated later in the day.
As inclement weather persisted, fans expressed their frustration over the delay in updates from the tour. Fortunately, storms in McKinney, TX, were expected to subside shortly, hinting that play might resume soon.
